Google Shopping Ads are being removed

The removal of Google Shopping ads, which allow us to quickly see a product's price and key features, will make it harder for shoppers conducting searches. For Turkiye

Google, which most of us use as a search engine and which dominates a large portion of the market, has decided to remove product ads (Google Shopping Ads) from its search homepage in Turkey. Don't worry, we will still be able to see them in the shopping section with more advanced features.

When searching for products, it used to display the same product, its variations, and its price on another site at the top of the search engine results. This section, which not only reduced advertising costs for companies but also provided buyers with the opportunity to make direct purchases, will no longer be displayed.

The removal of this section, where visitors can quickly see the price and basic features of a product, will make it a little more difficult for those searching for shopping. It can also be said that it is an application that allows other brands to have equal promotional rights.

This was summarized in the conclusion reached with the Competition Authority. It was stated that improvements would be made over time to ensure a return. The answer to the question of when Google product ads will close is August 10, 2020.

What is changing?

We are contacting you to inform you that, in order to comply with the Competition Board's decision published in May 2020, Google will unfortunately no longer display Shopping ads on Google Turkey search pages as of August 10, 2020. Your Shopping ads will continue to appear elsewhere.

This decision was not an easy one for Google, and we believe it will create fewer alternatives and result in a lower-quality experience for customers, sellers, and comparison shopping sites in Turkey. Detailed information on this matter can be found in our blog post.

Next Steps

This situation may cause changes in traffic to your existing Shopping campaigns targeting Turkey.

To prepare for this change and mitigate its impact on your business, we recommend the following:

  • Review your advertising campaigns' performance and budgets. You may want to shift your budget to other advertising formats or campaigns, such as Search, Video, Display, or App.
  • Adjust your bidding strategies. If you use Smart Shopping campaigns, we recommend setting a target ROAS (return on ad spend) based on your business needs. If you bid manually, you may want to adjust your bids to suit the circumstances.
  • Continue to monitor campaign performance and adjust controls accordingly. We hope Google Ads continues to significantly grow your business. Thank you for your partnership. If you have any additional questions, you can always reach us via your account team or by clicking the contact us link.
